Michael McGregor, Professor of English, Portland State University

Friday, September 25, 4 p.m.

MacLaurinCSF Study Center (1337 Cleveland Ave N., St. Paul)

Poet Robert Lax is well known for telling his friend Thomas Merton that he should want to be a saint. Lax’s belief in the transforming power of passionate intent led to a life of focused presence and a poetry both simple and subtle, concrete and transcendent. Author Michael N. McGregor, who knew Lax during the last years of his life, will discuss the wisdom and ways of a man Jack Kerouac called “a Pilgrim in search of beautiful Innocence.”
