After Liberalism: Imagining a Humane Post-Liberal Future
The 19th Annual Paul Holmer Lecture
Dr. Patrick J. Deneen, David A. Potenziani Memorial Associate Professor of Constitutional Studies in the Department of Political Science, University of Notre Dame
A growing number of liberal institutions seem increasingly dysfunctional. Whether governing institutions in Washington D.C., or economic organizations such as the banking sector and large-scale corporations, not to mention the collusion between the two sectors that seems only to benefit the elite, a growing number of Americans (and citizens throughout the West) have concluded that we live in a broken society. Could it be that predictions of the “end of history” were premature? Has liberalism run its course? If so, is there a prospect for a humane politics beyond liberalism?
We’ll host a public reception after the Holmer lecture in the foyer of the Bell Museum, just outside the lecture hall. Please join us for refreshments and conversation.
