Although classic apologetics still is essential, it has lost some of its effectiveness in an era when most Americans do not come from Christian families, and many non-Christians are not embarrassed to learn that they have no objective foundations for their moral values. Professor Skeel will identify and defend a different approach that highlights the compelling explanations Christianity offers for many of the most important puzzles of our existence, such as our consciousness, our perceptions of beauty and suffering, and our repeated optimism that we can create a truly just social order and repeated failure to do so.
